45 recognized as U.S. citizens in Jamestown Settlement ceremony

JAMES CITY – From Jane Hanson’s rendition of “Yankee Doodle” to a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance and even a guest speech by Thomas Jefferson, 45 people representing five continents were enveloped Saturday at Jamestown Settlement in a red, white and blue sea of Americana as their U.S. citizenship was celebrated.

The Citizenship Ceremony formally acknowledged citizenship of children, mostly 18 or younger, of naturalized Americans. The Oath of Allegiance was administered before each participant received a Certificate of Citizenship from an Immigration Services officer.
