Girl Scout recognition dearly needed

A recent letter regarding volunteerism was spot-on but it also got my attention for another reason: My granddaughter recently received her Gold Award from the Girl Scouts. It was handed to her with no ceremony or fanfare. A leader made the comment, "Just once, I would like to hear someone say, 'Eagle Scout? Oh, yes, that's what the boys have that is similar to the Gold Award.'"

Her basic premise was correct, of course, in that it is as difficult to earn as the other; however, one is much more widely known.
