Emergency shelter needs community support

On Nov. 12, Community of Faith Mission will begin its sixth season of providing emergency shelter to homeless men, women and children in Greater Williamsburg. Last year, we sheltered 110 people, resulting in 2,600 shelter stays during the coldest months of the year. This would have been impossible without our 33 congregations partnering with COFM and providing facilities, food and nearly 2,500 volunteers for the shelter program.

Individuals coming to the shelter are often at their lowest point. Some have been laid off jobs or may be coping with substance abuse or mental health issues. Some are employed but do not make enough to afford housing.
