Bruton maintains Bay Rivers standing by fending off Jamestown

YORK – Bruton tightened its grip on third place in the Bay Rivers District girls basketball standings Tuesday with a 64-50 win at home over Jamestown.

The Panthers (12-4, 11-4 Bay Rivers) and Eagles (11-6, 9-6) were separated by a game in the standings behind Smithfield and Tabb.

Bruton was in control much of Tuesday’s contest and led 50-39 in the fourth quarter before a Jamestown run, capped by a Jamiyah Johnson transition layup, trimmed the lead to three points with about four minutes to play.
