William and Mary leads CAA, state in NCAA Public Recognition Awards

The William and Mary athletics department led the Colonial Athletic Association as well as the state with nine NCAA Public Recognition Awards, the most for W&M since 2005-06.

The awards are given to teams who registered an Academic Progress Rate in the top-10 percent nationally in that sport.

The University of Virginia was next in the state with six.

Only 23 schools out of 306 total to earn an award had nine or more winners, and only three of those were public universities with the Tribe ranking behind Michigan and Minnesota, both with 11 winners.
