CHICAGO -- Roy Williams reached his eighth Final Four on Sunday as North Carolina smoked Notre Dame in the East Regional final. That’s more than any college basketball coach other than John Wooden, Mike Krzyzewski and Dean Smith.

But for fans mourning Virginia’s unfathomable demise here Sunday in the Midwest Regional against Syracuse, let’s go back to 2007.

Williams and North Carolina were a victory away from the Final Four. And like the Cavaliers this year, the Tar Heels were a No. 1 tournament seed.
