— The colorful carnival-like atmosphere that is Williamsburg Youth Baseball League Opening Day had a special twist for its 65th anniversary Saturday at Warhill Sports Complex.
The opening ceremony, which followed an early-morning home run derby, included an address by former Bruton High and Virginia Tech athletic standout Bryan Randall, who tossed a well-delivered ceremonial first pitch before the afternoon games commenced.
Randall, surrounded by hundreds of young players lining an infield and their families in the stands, told the crowd that playing sports was more about becoming a better person and that it started in little league.
