In her final high school cross country race Saturday, Bruton’s Clara Wincheski came away with a second consecutive second-place finish at the Virginia High School League’s Class 2 meet, but improved her finish from last year’s state meet by 45 seconds on the same course.
Wincheski had her best state meet time, finishing in 18:59, 18 seconds behind Maggie Walker’s Mary Carolina Heinen on a frigid and wet Great Meadows course in Warrenton. The time, while not a personal best overall for Wincheski, was a personal best on that course.
