Jordan Howard took a handoff in the fourth quarter last Sunday and surged toward the hole. The Bears running back was a 6-foot, 222-pound boulder rumbling downhill.
When Howard came face to face with Lions linebacker Tahir Whitehead, he lowered his left shoulder and blasted into Whitehead's chest. Whitehead needed four yards to haul Howard to the turf.
That hit and each one Howard doles out contains more oomph than shoulder pads alone can generate.
