Lafayette High standout Armonii Burden commits to play Division I football for Navy

Before he generated any football recruiting interest, Lafayette High senior Armonii Burden says he had decided to enlist in the Army. Turns out Burden will be going into the service, but is now on track to emerge as an officer.

Burden said Wednesday he has committed to play football for the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. Burden said he chose Navy over rival West Point (Army), the only other Division I school to offer him.

“You’ve got to rock with what you’ve got,” Burden said of making his choice between the two D-I schools to offer so far, rather than waiting. “I’m still young, but this takes a lot of pressure off of me because football isn’t going to last...
