AMELIA — Defense was the hallmark for Bruton High's football team's championship run in 2009.
The Panthers rekindled some of the magic Friday night, putting in a great effort in a 14-6 victory at Amelia County in the Panthers' season opener.
Nursing a 14-6 lead with 13.7 seconds left, Bruton linebacker Daniel Jones forced a fumble by Amelia County at the 3-yard line. The Panthers pounced on the loose ball to end the Raiders' comeback attempt.
Bruton's defense, led by Kapri Doucet and De'Andre Kissoon, was stout against the run all night, limiting Amelia to just 86 yards rushing. That's a far cry from the 301 yards on the ground the Raiders posted in their season opener...
