A day of firsts at Greensprings Miles for Smiles run

There was plenty of good running to celebrate last Saturday.

Robert S. White, 93, of Hampton bettered the Virginia state 8K record for men 90-94, Rose Crist, 62, of Lanexa broke the all-time Colonial Road Runners 8K record for women 60-64, Greg Dawson won his third inaugural CRR 8K men’s race, and two Jamestown High families, the Jeans and the Glasses dominated the awards ceremonies, all at Saturday’s debut Greensprings Miles for Smiles 8K Run, starting and finishing at Jamestown High.

The previous men’s age 90-94 state record for the 8K distance (4.97 miles) was 1:31:51 by Robert Huntington, 90, at the Shamrock 8K in March 2013. White smashed that mark by more than 11 minutes...
