Jamestown cross country's Jean exceeded own expectations in 2016

Jamestown junior Thorin Jean saved her best race for the 4A championships at Great Meadow in The Plains and as a result, earned 2016 Virginia Gazette Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year honors.

Reserving that race, in which she ran 19:10 and finished 12th, as her best is noteworthy considering her PR was a school-record 18:53 earlier in the season on Jamestown's home course.

But the 19:10 at states in November came with higher stakes and on a tougher course. At least, it was the most satisfying accomplishment of the season for Jean.
