After a pair of tough tests against bigger schools that left Jamestown's girls soccer team winless, and after a long spring break, it faced another test Monday in its Bay Rivers District opener against Smithfield.
Following a scoreless first half, the Eagles got a pair of goals after the break — one on a goal that was meant as a cross from Kylie Devine, then, following a tying goal from the Packers’ Maddie Vincent, a tie-breaking goal from Kennedy Mills — to get a 2-1 win at Wanner Stadium.
“Smithfield always is a good team to play,” said co-head coach Michelle Dawson. “And we knew that this was going to be a pretty tough game coming back from vacation.”
