Rough weather spoils events

From its inception in 1993, until 2013, The Vineyards of Williamsburg 5K Run, now called the CDR SuperHero 5K at The Vineyards at Jockey's Neck, was a Saturday evening race.

But with the routine threat of late afternoon or evening summer thunderstorms, and with two race postponements to Sunday, and one delayed race, in 2014 Child Development Resources, the race organizer and beneficiary, decided to switch to a morning time frame, the one mile fun run scheduled for 8 a.m., and the featured 5K event for 8:30 a.m.

Theoretically the morning race should have dramatically lessened the chance of bad weather. But for the 25th anniversary event, that was not the case. Early Saturday...
