Fort Eustis soldiers head to Africa to support those battling Ebola

About 60 Fort Eustis soldiers said goodbye to their loved ones Wednesday morning during a ceremony at the Anderson Field House as they deploy to West Africa in support of the efforts there to quell the Ebola epidemic.

None know when they will return.

“We'll be there as long as we're needed,” said Lt. Col. Kevin Baird, commander of 53rd Transportation Movement Control Battalion that is deploying.

Spc. Justin Adams knelt down, his arms around his three sons, Josef, 9, Nikolas, 6, and Gabriel, 3.

It's not the first time the boys have bid their dad farewell. The battalion just got back from Kuwait in April.
