A combination of gusty southwest winds and low humidity has increased the risk of fire Thursday in the Williamsburg region and throughout the Peninsula, according to a National Weather Service severe weather alert.
The severe weather alert is in effect through the afternoon and early evening hours.
Winds are expected to gust from the southwest at 25-30 mph, with humidity levels around 30-35 percent, the National Weather Service said. The forecast calls for a high in the upper 60s, with winds increasing from 7-12 mph in the morning to 13-18 mph in the afternoon.
