Local heavy downpours are possible, both as showers and scattered thunderstorms. Runoff will likely create ponding on streets, according to the NWS.
The alert extends from the coast to central Virginia.
Forecasters predict an 80 percent chance of heavy rain this afternoon, with a 60 percent chance of showers tonight, the NWS reports.
Monday's high is 83 degrees and the low is 73 degrees. Winds are northwest at 10 mph with gusts of 25 mph possible.
