If August felt hot, that's because it was.
Last month was the warmest August recorded in Williamsburg, according to Lyle Alexander, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
The service keeps records dating back to 1950.
"August was a warm month," Alexander said of the Williamsburg weather. "It was well above normal."
Williamsburg averaged 81 degrees last month, according to National Weather Service data. Alexander said the usual temperature for August is around 78 degrees.
As far as August goes, 2010 was the next warmest on record, followed by 2005, the meteorologist said.
