Food truck series returns to West Point

This fall, food trucks will again descend on West Point.

West Point officials are bringing back Food Trucks by the River, a food event series in which food trucks roll into town to offer a taste of something different from local tried-and-true dining offerings.

The event comes in response to residents’ rave reviews of the series when it made its first appearance in the spring.

“It was very well received,” Town Manager John Edwards said.

Two food trucks, along with a dessert vendor, are expected to set up shop at the foot of the Lord Delaware Bridge 5-8 p.m. Sept. 29, Oct. 13 and Oct 27.

Alongside the food, event organizers expect wine offered by Gauthier Vineyard and music at each event. Sweet Frog is signed up to be the dessert vendor for each event.

Bluegrass group Rappahannock Crossing is scheduled to provide musical entertainment Sept. 29, while guitarist Bruce Berger will perform both October dates, Edwards said.

Town officials made adjustments during the spring series’s and expect to continue honing the event to meet the public’s needs.Regardless of which vendors ultimately show up, town residents can expect a variety of dining options, Edwards said.

The first event of the series falls on the same night as West Point High School’s homecoming. While not an intentional decision, Edwards said the scheduling provides a nice opportunity for residents to get a bite to eat before the football game .

There will be free-to-use picnic tables at the events, and diners are welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Table reservations, a feature of the spring series, won’t make a return due to low demand in the previous series, Edwards said.

Parking is available at the corner of Route 33 and Chelsea Road at the farmer’s market, and the parking lot next to the kayak launch at Lee and 13th streets.
