West Point police charge man for shooting into a building

Police arrested a West Point man after they received a report of someone shooting a gun near the 800 block of Thompson Avenue.

West Point police arrested Gregory Thomas Byrum after responding to the call at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

Police discovered two firearms, additional ammunition and weapon magazines at the scene, officers said. Byrum, 50, is charged with shooting into an occupied building, reckless handling of a firearm, discharging a firearm within the town limits and child endangerment.

Police said the incident was related to a domestic issue. Byrum is being held at Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center with a $2,000. Additional charges may be pending. State police assisted with the call.
