Marscon draws sci-fi and fantasy fans to Williamsburg

Jedi knights, elves and more will descend on Williamsburg to attend Marscon Jan. 12-14.

The annual science fiction and fantasy convention, which features a werewolves theme this year, will offer a wide range of entertainers, activities and vendors to entertain fans of the genres at Doubletree Williamsburg Hotel.

Entertainers at the convention include the Blibbering Humdingers, a duo that performs music inspired by ’80s New Wave and musical theater, as well as Luna-C, a comedy troupe that performs sketch comedy based on science fiction movies and television shows, according to the event’s website.

A Doctor Who-themed tea party hopes to attract Doctor Who cosplayers and tea enthusiasts alike with a menu of scones, tea sandwiches and other treats in two sessions Jan. 13. Seats cost $5 per person and can be reserved prior to the convention or purchased at the event.

The convention also features a costume contest on Jan. 13. Gaming, including card games and role-playing games, will take place every day. Authors such as Carrie Vaughn and Maria Snyder will attend the convention.

Admission is $50 at the door for the weekend, $25 for Jan. 12, $35 for Jan 13 and $20 for Jan 14. Children up to 5 years old can be registered for free with an adult and children 6-12 years old with an adult can be registered at half price. Registration starts at noon Jan. 12.
