Beer festivals in Hampton Roads crowd the spring and summer calendar

Hampton Roads has a fascination with beer these days. New festivals and fundraisers are springing up each week, and new breweries are setting up shop around the region.

Here's a look at some beer-related events coming up in May and into the summer months that you might enjoy.

Blues, Brews & BBQ

When: Noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 2

Where: Riverwalk Landing. 331 Water Street, Yorktown waterfront

Admission: $25 in advance, $30 at the gate. 757-877-2933. Villageevents.org.

Information: "A Festival on the River" featuring regional and local blues performers, beer and food tastings.

Town Center Craft Beer Festival

When: 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 2

Where: Town Center Plaza, Independence and Virginia Beach boulevards, Virginia Beach

Admission: $25 in advance, $30 at the gate. beachstreetusa.com. 757-491-7866.

Information: The afternoon event features more than 50 craft beers and ciders from regional and national breweries.

The Mariners' Museum Craft Beer Festival

When: Noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 3

Where: The Mariners' Museum. 100 Museum Drive, Newport News

Admission: $35 in advance, $45 day of event, $30 museum members. marinersmuseum.org. 757-596-2222.

Information: Tickets include 20 craft beer tastings, entertainment and admission to tour the museum. Event takes place in the museum's outdoor courtyards with music, food vendors and beer talks by brewery representatives.

Virginia Beer Festival

When: 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, May 16-17

Where: Town Point Park, downtown Norfolk riverfront

Admission: $25-$30. 757-282-2822. vafest.org.

Information: Sponsored by the Virginia Arts Festival and Festevents, this popular annual event brings together 65 breweries and features more than 125 local, national and international brews for tasting.

Bacon Bash — A Bacon, Beer and Bourbon Affair

When: 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 21

Where: Virginia Living Museum. 524 J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News

Information: Celebrating the love of bacon, The Rotary Club of City Center Newport News hosts this charity event. Local restaurants serve up bacon-inspired dishes and guests enjoy food, beer and bourbon tastings. Proceeds benefit The Rotary Foundation and a variety of local charities.

Brew at the Zoo & Vino, Too

When: 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 11

Where: Virginia Zoo, 3500 Granby Street, Norfolk.

Information: A benefit for the Cultural Alliance of Greater Hampton Roads, Brew at the Zoo will feature local brews by O'Connor Brewing Co., Smartmouth Brewing Co., St. George Brewing Co. and Young Veterans Brewing Co. There'll be music provided by Mountaintide (Jim Newsom and Holly Dutton), live painting and artworks for sale.

Summer Brewfest

When: 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 10

Where: Town Point Park, downtown Norfolk riverfront

The event offers a wide selection of local, national and international beers.

Dog Street Pub Craft Beer Festival

When: Noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2

Where: Merchants Square, Duke of Gloucester Street, Williamsburg

Virginia Craft Beer & Wine Festival

When: Noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12

Where: nTelos Wireless Pavilion. Pavilion Plaza, 16 Crawford Circle, Portsmouth.

Admission: Early Bird tickets $20 while supplies last, $30 in advance and $35 week of the event, if available. Through Ticketmaster or Pavilion Box Office. pavilionconcerts.com. 757-393-8181.

Information: Local and regional breweries will be participating plus a selection of wineries from across the state. Proceeds support the Virginia Legends Walk Foundation.
