NWS: Flood advisory issued for southern part of Peninsula

The National Weather Service office in Wakefield has issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for Poquoson, Hampton and Newport News in response to localized flooding that is in effect until 6:15 p.m.

The alert was issued at 3:18 p.m. A line of thunderstorms produced heavy rain in the southern parts of Hampton and Newport News that could cause urban and small stream flooding. Around one to two inches of rain have fallen in the area so far.

The office warns that there will be minor flooding in areas of poor drainage in the area.
