Warm, sunny weather in forecast for Tuesday

Expect warm weather and sunny skies on Tuesday thanks to an area of high pressure over the Hampton Roads region, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures in Newport News are forecast to reach around 89 degrees, which is just below the average July temperature of 90 degrees. Skies are expected to be sunny with a 5–7 mph northwest breeze, shifting to the east later in the day.

The high pressure system is also keeping tropical storm Chris off the North Carolina coast. As of Monday evening, the National Hurricane Center reported Chris’s maximum sustained winds just below the hurricane threshold. The storm is expected to reach hurricane strength soon.

On Wednesday, a cold front is expected to move through and push Chris out to sea. There’s a chance of showers in the forecast from the front, with high temperatures staying about the same.
