Friday's high school football games: Poquoson and York meet with playoff positioning on the line

POQUOSON (7-2, 6-2 district) AT YORK (6-3, 5-3)

WHEN: 7 p.m. Friday.

WHERE: Bailey Field.

THE BUZZ: Poquoson and Goochland have jostled for the No. 1 seed in the Region 2A bracket all season. The Islanders’ 21-0 loss to Lafayette last week dropped them to No. 2, but a win against the Falcons could put them back in the top spot. However, York would cement a first-round home game with a win, so both sides will be fighting for postseason positioning.

THE PICK: Poquoson 28-21.

WARHILL (6-3, 5-3) AT NEW KENT (4-5, 4-4)

WHEN: 7 p.m. Friday.

WHERE: New Kent High.

THE BUZZ: After two straight losses dropped the Lions to 3-3 early in October, they have reeled off three straight wins, including a 49-6 walloping of rival Jamestown last week. The Trojans, on the other hand, have faltered down the stretch and have faded out of postseason contention. Look for Warhill to make noise heading into the playoffs.

THE PICK: Warhill 35-13.

BRUTON (2-7, 1-7) AT SMITHFIELD (7-2, 7-1)

WHEN: 7 p.m. Friday.

WHERE: Smithfield High.

THE BUZZ: Since losing their first two games of the season to powerhouses Dinwiddie and Lafayette, the Packers have been unbeatable. Smithfield beat Grafton 62-6 last Friday and should experience similar success against Bruton.

THE PICK: Smithfield 45-7.

TABB (2-7, 2-6) VS. JAMESTOWN (2-7, 2-6)

WHEN: 7 p.m. Friday.

WHERE: Wanner Stadium.

THE BUZZ: Both teams hold the same record heading into this regular-season finale, but while the Tigers sit four spots out of the Region 3A playoff bracket, the Eagles are hanging on to the final spot in Region 4A. Yet while Jamestown has something to play for, Tabb comes in on a roll. After losing seven straight games to start the season, the Tigers have won their last two.

THE PICK: Tabb 27-14.

MENCHVILLE (2-7, 2-6) VS. PHOEBUS (9-0, 8-0)

WHEN: 7 p.m. Friday.

WHERE: Darling Stadium.

THE BUZZ: The Phantoms should secure their first undefeated regular season since 2012 against the Monarchs. Phoebus has not allowed any opponent to score more than 14 points this year; Menchville has scored more than 14 points just once.

THE PICK: Phoebus 48-0.
