Shelter Picks: Opie

By Sammy Johnson

This dog's official name is Opie, but he has a funny nickname: "Bat Dog". That's because he has big ears that stick out to the sides when they're up. Nobody is quite sure what kind of dog Opie is. He might be a hound mix, maybe with some boxer in him, or even something called a Canaan Dog that is a herding dog from the Middle East. He has a funny look because his body is pretty small compared to his head and bushy tail. What is for sure is that Opie is very playful and loving. Anytime I would sit down in the grass, he would lie down right next to me to snuggle. He's also great walking on the leash and doesn't pull a lot like some other dogs. So basically he is energetic but not hyper! He is 2 or 3 years old and weighs about 35 pounds. He has been at Animal Aid Society since June 21, and for some reason people have been overlooking him. I hope the Bat Dog will get a loving home soon.
