Water line repairs lead to early dismissal at York High School

York High School students were dismissed at 11:15 a.m. Thursday after a water main away from the campus broke, according to Katherine Goff, a spokeswoman for the school system.

Goff said the water main broke somewhere on Route 17 and did not affect the school's water service. However, repairs to the water main required the school's water to be shut down, leading to the early dismissal of students, Goff said.

Repairs began at noon and are expected to last about five hours.

Goff said an alternative water source will be brought to the school in the afternoon, so the field hockey tournament and football games scheduled to take place at Bailey Field, which is on the campus of York High, will happen as planned.

School is expected to resume at its normal time on Friday, Goff said.
