‘Military Through The Ages’ returns to Jamestown Settlement this weekend

JAMESTOWNMore than 450 re-enactors, veterans and modern-day soldiers will gather at Jamestown Settlement this weekend for Military Through the Ages, a unique chronological display of military history from 64 A.D. to modern times.

The event runs 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Jamestown Settlement, a living-history museum of 17th-century Virginia. The museum is located on Jamestown Road near the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry dock.

Highlights of the event include re-enactors in authentically re-created military camps. They will demonstrate how uniforms, weapons and military tactics evolved through the centuries.

Musical performances will span five centuries, including The Federal City Brass Band, re-creating a Union Army regimental brass band from the 1860s, and Ladies for Liberty, singing Andrews Sisters-style music of the World War II era.

Comparative artillery firing demonstrations, including the Virginia Army National Guard 111th Field Artillery, at noon Saturday and Sunday. An artillery salute kicks off a children’s parade at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Military Through the Ages is included with admission to Jamestown Settlement, $16.75 for adults and $7.75 for children ages 6-12. Children under 6 free. Residents of James City and York counties and the City of Williamsburg, including College of William and Mary students, receive complimentary admission to both museums with proof of residency. Parking is free.
