Williamsburg Inn plans 75th anniversary dinner on April 14

The Williamsburg Inn turns 75 this month, and the public is invited to participate in a special anniversary reception and dinner on Saturday, April 14.

The evening begins with a 6 p.m. champagne and hors d’oeuvres reception in the East Lounge, where a collection of photographs, menus and other treasures from the inn’s history will be on display. Dinner will be served from 7:15 to 9 p.m. in the Regency Room.

Travis Brust, the inn’s executive chef, plans to take favorite items from menus of the past 75 years and prepare them with a contemporary twist. Selections at the reception will include tastes of Carolina rice-dusted fried local oysters, spring pea soup, crabmeat Randolph, Virginia cheeses and artisanal breads.

The dinner menu will feature lobster bisque, an intermezzo of mint julep sorbet, beef Wellington with truffle whipped potatoes and spring vegetables, and a dessert sampler. An anniversary birthday cake will be served as well. Paired wines are priced separately.

Cost is $75 per person, plus tax and gratuity, and reservations can be made by calling (757) 229-2141.
