8 Christmastide in Virginia: Get a close-up look of 17th- and 18th-century holiday traditions through interpretive programs, demonstrations and period musical entertainment. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Dec. 31 at Jamestown Settlement and American Revolution Museum in Yorktown. Admission $8-$17.

7 10 million lights: 1,500 trees with 20,000 ornaments at the new Busch Gardens Railway and Christmas Town greet holiday lovers. 2-10 p.m. daily; noon to 10 p.m. Saturday. Busch Gardens. Ticket prices vary; visit buschgardens.com/williamsburg/tickets.

6 Meet Dr. Walter Russell: Spend some time listening to Jamestown’s first doctor talk about the colonists’ maladies and exploring exploring Chesapeake Bay. 2 p.m. Friday at Historic Jamestowne. 5 Tenacity: Women in Jamestown and Early Virginia: The first women at Jamestown faced many challenges. Learn about them in this signature exhibit. Daily, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Jamestown Settlement, 2110 Jamestown Road. Free with museum admission.

4 Christmas Portative and Harpsichord Recital: Join Bruton Music Director Rebecca Davy for this holiday performance. 8 p.m. Saturday at Bruton Parish Church, 201 W. Duke of Gloucester St. Free.

3 Crystal Carols Concert: Dean Shostak plays the glass armonica, glass handbells and glass violin performs seasonal favorites. 1 p.m. Saturday, Williamsburg Library Theater, 515 Scotland St. $10.

2 Noon Year’s Eve — for kids: Stories, dancing crafts, a balloon drop at noon and plenty of bubble wrap popping. 11 a.m. at James City County Library, 7770 Croaker Road. Free, tickets will be given at the Youth Services Reference Desk an hour before the program begins.
