Olde Towne Medical and Dental Center hopes to raise money for its mission with the Greensprings Miles for Smiles 8K Run/Walk. The event hits the ground running at Jamestown High School Sept. 29.

Olde Towne, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2018, provides primary medical and dental care to uninsured and underinsured individuals throughout the Williamsburg area. The center serves 5,000 patients each year; in 2017, it filled 3,900 prescriptions worth nearly $9.4 million.

“Olde Towne relies on private donations, and fundraisers like this one, to provide the services it does,” Race Director Marisa Colon said in a news release. “It’s up to people like us to ensure our community is able to continue to receive these important services.”

Participants can choose between an 8K run/walk or a one- or two-mile cross country race. The track incorporates the Greensprings, Powhatan Creek and Capital trails.

All registration fees directly benefit Olde Towne. Sponsors include radio station 95.3 the Burg, Chick-Fil-A and Island Jam Fitness, among others.

“It is a powerful thing to see the community get behind an organization the way it has,” Colon said.
