Here for the Girls aims to celebrate the perseverance of breast cancer survivors with the return of its 12th annual Pink Carpet Gala event Sept. 29.

The nonprofit organization provides a support network for local women affected by breast cancer; the gala raises money for that mission.

“This is a night of glam, dancing, great food and great wine — all while making a difference for those affected by breast cancer,” said Amanda Capozzi, Here for the Girls development and events manager.

Ashley Smith, an anchor for WVEC’s 13News Now Daybreak, returns to emcee the event.

It also heralds the 12th iteration of the organization’s “Calendar to Live By,” which highlights a different breast cancer survivor and her story each month alongside breast health information.

“Our calendar is special because it is so much more than a calendar. It is a guide for healthy living, for breast cancer survivors and everyone else, too,” Here for the Girls Co-Founder and Executive Director Mary Beth Gibson said.

The calendar’s models will appear as special guests during the gala. Gibson said the modeling experience helps the women further heal and continue to grow through the process of helping others.

“The original goal was and still is education,” Gibson said, emphasizing that the disease impacts more than just older women. “We want women to be informed health advocates for themselves.”

The gala’s popularity has grown each year since its inception in 2007.

“I’m amazed at how much the community has gotten behind this event and the women we serve,” Capozzi said.
