The Pretty in Pink “Sweetheart Gala” will be a fun filled night for a good cause.
The gala will benefit Beyond Boobs!, a local breast cancer awareness organization.
“It’s a night out for everybody,” said Mike Plaxa, who along with his son, hosts the event. “The whole theme of this thing is fun. They can expect a cocktail bar and good dinner.”
In addition to the food and drinks, The Right On Band will perform. The Right on Band has performed for former presidents and specializes in Motown, disco and 1970s funk.
There will also be a raffle of a $2,000 necklace from designs by Goodman and Sons Jewelers.
The event is in its third year and Plaxa said he doesn’t see an end in sight. “This is going to be an annual event.”
Last year, the event had about 400 people attend, according to Plaxa. He is hoping to fill the DoubleTree by Hilton to its max capacity of 550 people this year. Plaxa said tickets for the event are still on sale.
For Beyond Boobs!, the “Sweetheart Gala” is something that the foundation looks forward to year after year.
“It’s a great fundraiser to help us continue our mission,” said Vicki Vawter, Beyond Boobs! events and community relations manager “It means the world to us.”
Vawter said Beyond Boobs!, which is a support service for Here for the Girls Inc., aims to improve the lives of young women affected by breast cancer. Beyond Boobs! will receive a portion of ticket sales, and 100 percent of raffle ticket sales.
Tickets for the event are $59 per person and includes dinner, the show, dancing, raffle, tax and gratuity.
