Storytime with Santa: Join that right jolly old elf for milk, cookies and stories. 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, William and Mary Bookstore and Cafe, 345 W. Duke of Gloucester St. Free.

Go for a ride: Partner up with the Williamsburg Area Bicyclists for a ride around the Virginia Capital Trail.10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday. Chickahominy Riverfront Park, 1350 John Tyler Parkway. Check out the ride calendar at wabonline.org for details and cancellations. Free.

See the birds: The Williamsburg Bird Club sets out on its monthly bird walk from 8-10 a.m. Saturday. New Quarter Park, 1000 Lakeshead Drive. Bring binoculars if you have them. Free.

Preserving the old ways: At Jamestown Settlement, they’ll be cooking like the original settlers; over at the American Revolution Museum in Yorktown, encamped soldier will show how they manage rations. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Admission at Jamestown: $17 for adults, $8 ages 6-12. Admission at Yorktown: $15 for adults, $7.50 ages 6-12. Combination tickets are available.

Small works: Browse the newest show at Williamsburg Contemporary Art Center, which focuses on small works suitable for holiday gift giving. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., every day except Mondays. 110 Westover Ave. Free

Holiday Choral Concert: Come listen as the Saint Gertrude High School Women’s Honors Ensemble from Richmond serenades with seasonal music. 8 p.m. Tuesday, Bruton Parish Church, 201 W. Duke of Gloucester St. Free

It’s a slam dunk: Cheer on the William and Mary men’s basketball team as they take on the St. Joseph Hawks. 4 p.m. Saturday, Kaplan Area, 751 Ukrop Way. Tickets range from $12-$18.
