The Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra hopes to show children the magic of music with their performance at the Williamsburg Community Chapel Sunday.
In the same vein as the WSO’s “Carnival of the Animals,” “Ady’s American Adventure” is a family-friendly experience featuring multimedia components and spanning a variety of genres, including classical, jazz, ragtime, blues and others.
Written by Richmond Symphony violinist Ellen Cockerham Riccio, the concert tells the story of a young boy whose family immigrates to the U.S. during the 1920s. He explores the diverse landscape of American music as his journey takes him from rural Texas to Carnegie Hall.
Multimedia projections and Virginia Regional Ballet dancers help tell the story. After the concert, the event also features an “instrument petting zoo” where children can get a closer look at the orchestral instruments involved.
The WSO performs “Ady’s American Adventure” 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Williamsburg Community Chapel, 3899 John Tyler Highway.
