Americans to Receive First National Text Alert From President Trump
This is the first test of a national presidential alert system to warn citizens of a crisis. These could include the launch of a missile by another country or a tsunami. The new system is ran by Federal Emergency Management Agency officials. Testing of the system is scheduled for 2:18 pm ET on Oct. 3. Government agencies nationwide have issued more than 40,000 emergency alerts since 2012. However, those were only amber and weather alerts for specific regions. Three New Yorkers filed a federal lawsuit last week attempting to block the test. They feel the system is unconstitutional and violates free speech.
