100 Years of Jazz!

Arts Alive presents the "Side Street Strutters" and the opening of our "All-Media" art exhibit on Saturday, April 28.

The Side Street Strutters, with vocalist Meloney Collins, celebrate the 100th anniversary of recorded jazz. "Vinyl Jazz - A Century Celebration" is a potpourri of jazz, pop and R&B songs like Gershwin's "Rhapsody In Blue", Ellington's "Mood Indigo" and "All Or Nothing At All" recorded by Frank Sinatra.  Big band melodies that shaped our musical landscape. Performance begins at 7 p.m. at the W. T. Robinson-Sture G. Olsson Civic Auditorium and Fine Arts Center, 1040 Thompson Ave., in West Point.

Prior to the performance, the Arts Alive visual arts committee will host an All-Media art exhibit at 6:30 p.m. The exhibit will be on display from April 17 through May 22 in the exhibit area of the auditorium, which is adjacent to West Point High School. It can be viewed during regular school hours by entering through the high school's main entrance near the office.

Tickets for the performance are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors (65+) and $10 for students. A group rate of $15 is available for groups of 10 or more. Tickets may be purchased online at www.artsaliveinc.org, by phone at 804-843-3475 or by email at artsaliveinc@yahoo.com.
