Colonial Capital Kiwanis learns about Literacy for Life

Joan Peterson, Executive Director of Literacy for Life recently presented a program to the Kiwanis Club of Colonial Capital about the program here in the Williamsburg Community. The program was started at the College of William and Mary as an effort to improve literacy for entry level employees at the college and has since expanded to the entire community. The program is currently helping about 900 learners with the assistance of about 300 volunteer tutors and concentrates on improving the lives of those whose low literacy skills hold them back from qualifying for life sustaining jobs. Pictured above are program sponsor Maloy Jones, Ms. Peterson, and Club President Elect Rama Skelton.
