Dreams Gymnastics Center Opens in Toano, VA

Dreams Gymnastics Center is the newest USA Gymnastics Member Club in the Hampton Roads area. The newly built 12,000 square foot facility in Toano opened to the public on January 2nd, 2018. The competitive gymnasts of Dreams had been practicing in a temporary location in Newport News since the gym opened in June, 2017, eagerly awaiting construction of their new facility to complete. Dreams Gymnastics Center is the only club around that offers recreational and competitive training in all three disciplines of Olympic gymnastics: Artistic (both Junior Olympic and Xcel Levels), Rhythmic, and Trampoline and Tumbling (T&T)!

The training at Dreams is led by Galina Yordanova, Owner and Program Director and Pavlin Yordanov, Owner and Head Coach. Coach Galina is a former Elite gymnast from Bulgaria where she trained with world renowned coaches and competed alongside Olympians and World Champions for over eight years. That, paired with being a USA Gymnastics coach for the pre-competitive levels through Junior Olympic Level 10, as well as being a parent of two gymnasts herself has given Coach Galina over 35 years of experience in the sport. Coach Pavlin was a long-time acrobatic athlete and folk dancer in Bulgaria. He has over 15 years of experience coaching all Junior Olympic levels and all events in Artistic Gymnastics and Trampoline & Tumbling. Coach Pavlin is well-known for sharing his passion for the sport by leading training in a safe and fun atmosphere! He continuously modifies his coaching techniques to fit each athlete's needs. Several of Coach Galina's and Coach Pavlin's gymnasts have earned All-Around Champion meet titles, State Champion titles and have moved on to become Regional Qualifiers.

The Yordanovs shared, "When designing the programs for Dreams, we capitalized on the best concepts we had encountered in other clubs over the years and combined them with our own knowledge and experience to create programs that are fun, rewarding, and stimulating to the minds and bodies of young athletes. We brainstormed with education professionals to highlight the activities, equipment and curriculum that would be most beneficial in our recreational programs. When devising our Junior Olympic program's training strategy, we implemented the most successful coaching concepts we have learned into each practice for our gymnasts. In designing our Elite program, we utilized everything we learned from the many international gymnastics coaching legends we have met over the years. We are not looking to reinvent the wheel at Dreams, but rather to combine the best of the successful existing systems." Together, the coaches of Dreams work diligently to teach each, recreational and competitive, athlete lifelong skills in a safe and rewarding environment. They understand how children learn best - by example, and with repetition.

Dreams is very unique in the diversity of recreational classes they offer at varied price options, for all ages and all levels. Rhythmic gymnastics focuses on all-around physical education complimentary to a young girl's physique and development. Acrobatic gymnastics is a great fit for enhancing competitive dance routines by combining them with different acro elements such as cartwheels, walkovers, handsprings, aerials and more. Trampoline and Tumbling (T&T) classes are comprised of 3 events: Trampoline, Double Mini-Trampoline (Dreams is the only gym in the area to house one!) and Tumbling. Spartan Warrior workouts are designed to improve overall athletic performance for boys: strength, speed, conditioning and flexibility. Gymnastics plays a big role in pole vault training, too, because it helps athletes increase endurance and stamina by using various conditioning workouts.

Dreams offers interesting and unique programs and special events, too! The Tumble & Teach program is specially designed to meet the needs of preschool aged children by combining one hour of structured gymnastics class with one hour of organized learning. The Opportunity to Dream program offers the gift of gymnastics in a one-hour (free of charge) class to children in the area who might not otherwise have the opportunity to be introduced to the sport. The Dreams in Motion program is a class specifically geared toward accommodating children with disabilities. Each January, Dreams will host a Winter Olympic Invitational Meet, open to all children currently enrolled in a recreational class. They will also host a Summer Olympic Day held in conjunction with the annual event that is recognized around the world (June 23rd), which is dedicated to getting people active, learning about Olympic values and discovering new sports!

The Competitive Gymnastics Program at Dreams Gymnastics Center is for highly motivated gymnasts who want to test the limits of their abilities. Team placement is by invitation only and is for gymnasts that demonstrate physical capabilities and mental readiness for advanced gymnastics and that express a desire to compete along with family support. Competitive gymnastics can be difficult, but the coaches of Dreams always remain committed to the love and enjoyment of the sport.

Some reasons why you should join Dreams Gymnastics Center include:
❖ Physical development - strength, flexibility, agility, balance and coordination.
❖ Cognitive development - listening and following directions.
❖ Personal development - self-confidence, teamwork, responsibility, sportsmanship, improved social skills, and working hard to achieve goals.
❖ Life skills development - discipline, determination, hard work, time management and commitment.

Jennifer Walk, Owner and Director of Public Relations, remarks, "After several months of training at our temporary gym in Newport News, we are thrilled to be in our new, permanent home now! Our number one goal at Dreams is to inspire and empower each gymnast that walks through our doors -but not only in gymnastics; in life, too. We strive to create an atmosphere where all of our gymnasts are encouraged to dream, to believe and to achieve. I am proud of our gym and how much we have accomplished since opening over the summer - but I'm even more excited to now be able to bring our unique and holistic training approach to the Greater Williamsburg area!"
