FREE LAST MINUTE TAX HELP IN Williamsburg
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program of Williamsburg is offering free, last-minute tax help at 306 South Henry Street Tuesdays through Thursdays from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Saturdays 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The service is courtesy of the IRS' Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. VITA provides free basic income tax return preparation to qualified individuals in local communities. IRS-certified volunteers are on hand to inform taxpayers about tax credits for which they may qualify, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly.
"We'll generally help people whose incomes are $54,000 or less to prepare their federal and state income tax returns and provide free electronic filing," said Dave Lehnertz.
Taxpayers seeking assistance must have photo identification and Social Security Cards (or Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers) for themselves, spouses and dependents. They should also bring wage and earnings statements (Forms W-2), interest and dividend statements (Forms 1099), a copy of last year's return, and any other information concerning their income and expenses for 2017. For joint e-filed returns, both spouses must be present to sign the required tax forms.
