Student's senior class project gives back to the community
Yorktown, VA, December, 2018 - Anna Hohlrieder is a senior at Hampton Roads Academy (HRA) in Newport News, Virginia where she has been on the HRA Golf Team since her freshmen year. At HRA, all senior class students must complete a senior project to graduate. For her project, Anna knew she wanted to give back to the community and develop a project that had something to do with the game of golf.
"I fell in love with the game of golf at the age of seven while attending a golf camp at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg," said Hohlrieder.
For her senior project she decided to offer a one-time College Golf Scholarship in the amount of One Thousand, Five Hundred Dollars ($1,500) to a local high school senior graduating in 2019 and residing in either Yorktown, Williamsburg or Jamestown, Virginia. To raise the $1,500 for her scholarship, Anna opened an eBay store and started selling items she found in her parent's attic, her father's fishing shack and parts she found in her father's automotive garages. Anna wanted assistance with the scholarship selection process, so she enlisted the help of several prominent members of the community and formed "The Anna Hohlrieder Golf Scholarship Committee". Once all the applications are in, the committee members will read through them and choose the winner of "The Anna Hohlrieder Golf Scholarship". To facilitate an easy application process, Anna created a website for the scholarship using WIX.com.
"My website allows applicants to learn more about the scholarship and to easily apply online", said Hohlrieder.
The deadline for applications is February 1, 2019. Anna and her committee members are looking forward to receiving the applications and choosing the winner!
