James City Lions assist in recycling eyeglasses

Members of the James City Lions Club visit the Peninsula Branch of the Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center of Eastern Virginia in Newport News on a monthly basis. They assist in cleaning and calibrating used eyeglasses which are then distributed to the needy and homeless. Over 900,000 pair of eyeglasses have been recycled since the Center was formed in 2002. Well over half of them, including all prescription eyeglasses, have been shipped to countries overseas. Pictured cleaning eyeglasses are (from left) Lions Boyd Chamberlain (project leader), Carol Adams (Peninsula Branch Co-Director) and Linda Benner.
