Kiwanians hear the story of the Cedar Grove Cemetery

Bill Brown, full time caretaker of the Cedar Grove Cemetery, recently gave a talk to the Kiwanis Club of Colonial Capital. The cemetery, originally begun in the late 1800s, is owned and operated by the City of Williamsburg, and is located next to the W&M Law School on South Henry Street. Mr. Brown recounted the history of the cemetery and described the work in keeping its monuments and grave sites in neat and attractive condition. The cemetery contains the remains of both Union and Confederate soldiers and many civilians. Only residents of the City of Williamsburg are permitted to purchase space in the cemetery, but the Memorial Garden for cremains has no residency requirement.
