Teen remembered in annual Fundraiser

Proclaiming Grace Outreach, a local non-profit, will be hosting the Jenna Bash Festival at Rockahock Campgrounds in Lanexa, Va. The event will be held Saturday, August 4, 2018 from 11:00am to 5:00pm.

The event was created in celebration of the birthday and life of Jenna Grace King, a 17 year old that passed in a car accident in 2008. Jenna had nearly completed her first year at Randolph College and had a passion to help others and help animals. Each year Proclaiming Grace Outreach (PGO), which was established in Jenna's memory, hosts the bash to celebrate her birthday and memory. Funds raised from the event are used to benefit Proclaiming Grace's efforts to feed, clothe and do minor home repairs for residents in New Kent and James City counties.

The organizations ultimate goal is to build the Jenna Grace King Outreach Center. This facility would allow them to house their service operations in one place, allow them to have classroom space, and allow them to offer more services to more people. In honor of Jenna's love of animals, each year PGO also donates 25% of the proceeds to the New Kent Humane Society and New Kent Animal Shelter. Last year each organization received over three thousand dollars a piece.

This year there is a new $3.00 parking fee, which will be directly donated to the PGO Food Pantry. According to FeedMore, that $3.00 parking fee will buy twelve meals for the food pantry clients. With last year's event participation estimated at 500, that could provide approximately $1,500 towards feeding those in need in the local community. The Food Pantry, which operates on the first and third Fridays of every month, has provided hundreds of thousands of pounds of food to residents of New Kent and James City Counties over the last ten years.

The family-friendly event includes live music, a silent auction, a butterfly release, bounce houses, waterslides, kids games with prizes, food, vendors, dunking booth, hayride, train rides, bake sale, animal adoptions and more. Admission is free with a non-perishable food or pet item. If you'd like to be a vendor for the event, donate an item to the Silent Auction, become a sponsor, or help Proclaiming Grace Outreach with their missions please check out their webpage at www.pgova.com for a full list of details.
