Thank You Williamsburg

Community Contributor

Words cannot express the appreciation that members of Green Spring Garden Club, Inc. feel toward the many area residents and businesses that joined with us to present the 55th Annual Christmas Homes Tour on Saturday, Dec. 6.
> The kindness and generosity of the people in this community who helped make this tour a wonderful success overwhelmed us. Volunteers, members of other garden clubs and professional arrangers, designed lovely floral arrangements. Professional arrangers included Arlene Aitken-Williams of Morrison's Flowers and Gifts; Marion Baker; Allison Clock; Patti De Blass of Schmidt's Flowers and Accessories; Helene Gardener; Tom Hamlin; Kent Harrell and Kendall Kirby of Seasons of Williamsburg; Don Haynie; Geneva and Robert Hunt; Glenda Knowles; Simon Li of 1-800-Flowers/Colonial; Emily McDowell; Elgin Morris of Williamsburg Floral and Gifts; Jim Mundy of The Golden Strawberry; and Caroline Wooten. Professional photographers Craig Davenport and Erica Kuyendall helped us record the magical transformation of each residence.
> Over 400 volunteers served as hostesses in our seven residences, sold tickets, put up and took down signs, delivered lanterns and mats, took photos of the arrangements, distributed brochures, and wrote newspaper and magazine articles to help spread the word about our tour. This is a truly inspiring community effort.
> We extend our thanks to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation for its continued support each year. The exteriors of the six homes open in the Historic Area were beautifully decorated by the Landscape Services Department during its busiest time of the year.
> Special thanks to all our sponsors: Berry Engineering; Chickahominy House; Fat Canary; House & Home magazine; Jazzy Giraffe; King's Creek Plantation; Merchants Square Association; Minutemen Press Williamsburg; Philip Richardson Company; Prudential Towne Realty; Sentara Williamsburg; Towne Bank; Velvet Shoestring; Waypoint Grille; Mr. & Mrs. T. Frank Belvin; Marijane & Don Harper and Marcia & Steve Hibbitts.
> The members of our club look forward to putting on this event each year and are most grateful to the residents who allowed us to showcase their homes for the 2014 tour.
> All proceeds will be returned to the community. Scholarships are given to students of environmental science and/or horticulture at the College of William and Mary, Christopher Newport University and Virginia Tech. Nature Camp scholarships are provided to middle and high school students. Also, each year funds are used to restore gardens and support local horticultural projects. The list of our philanthropic endeavors may be found on our website,
> It was a wonderful day in spite of the afternoon rain. People were in cheerful, holiday spirits and we could not have done it without the amazing support of our community. Thank You!
