Back again for the 2018-19 school year, we will be announcing a weekly "Athlete of the Week" to recognize our varsity student-athletes that exhibit truly outstanding performances throughout the year. These AOTWs will be nominated by their coaches and the winner will be determined by a vote and announced on Wednesdays.
This week's Athlete of the Week is Patrick Murphy '19. Patrick is a member of the boys' cross country team and this is his third season running varsity cross country for the Trojans.
Last week, the Trojans' cross country team hosted the Walsingham Invitational meet at the Eastern State Hospital course. With runners from 20 schools competing in the race, it was a very large and competitive field, and a difficult course. Despite the tough competition, Patrick came in third place overall in a very impressive time of just 17:19. This was a personal best for Patrick by 9 seconds, and was just the third time in the last 10 years that a Trojan runner had finished in under 17:20 on that course.
Patrick's great race led the way for the Trojans, who finished in 4th place of 14 scoring teams. The boys' cross country team is off to a great start this year with a win at the Bishop Sullivan Invitational and an impressive showing at the Walsingham Invitational. Next up for the Trojans is the Norfolk Collegiate meet coming up on Friday, Oct. 5.
Congratulations Patrick, and Go Trojans!!
