Williamsburg Area Bicyclists Celebrate 20 Years

Approximately 50 members of the Williamsburg Area Bicyclists (WAB) gathered at Colonial Heritage in honor of the club celebrating its 20th birthday. Dinner was served in the elegant Heritage Room during the February 13th monthly General Membership Meeting. Afterwards, all enjoyed birthday cake and ice cream while a raffle took place. Prizes included several generous gift certificates to Indian Fields Tavern, an entry into the annual Virginia Capital Trail Foundations' "Cap2Cap" bike ride, and plenty more. Around $235 dollars was collected from the raffle, and donated to WAB's latest community program in the works, Cycling Without Age. Awards for various accomplishments were handed out by WAB's President, Deana Sun, and Vice President, Rick Nevins. The award for "Most Improved Rider" was given to Luis Morillo, and "Volunteer of the Year" went to the club's Publicity Chair, Allison Jarvis. Member Fran Wenbert collected both the "Ride Leader of the Year" for leading 44 out of the club's 359 rides as well as the impressive award of "High Mileage" for riding a total of 11,502 miles in 2017 alone. Fran, along with Mark Holt who came in a very close second with 11,130 miles, and 50 other members of the club rode a grand total of 141,922 miles. We invite you all to bring out your bikes and join the Williamsburg Area Bicyclists as we make 2018 even better than last year!
