Williamsburg Host Lions Club Welcomes a "Man of Action"

The Williamsburg Host Lions Club recently had the pleasure of hearing Charles S. Gates, DTM (Distinguished Toastmaster) speak on the topic of "Happy." Charles is the President of Local Legislature, LLC, a former US Marine, and a native of New Jersey. An active member of the community, Charles is a past president of Nansemond-Suffolk NAACP, Immediate Past District 66 Director with Toastmasters International, and currently serves on the boards of Y2K Mentoring Academy and Straighten Up and Fly Right, Inc.

In 2013, Charles introduced his "Let's Talk" program to Hampton Roads. Its mission is to teach effective communication and leadership skills to school aged children. The Urban League's "Young Professionals," the YMCA "Teen Leaders Club," the youth of Jack and Jill of America (Hampton chapter), and numerous others have benefitted from the course.

Charles lives George Washington Carver's mantra, "no individual has any right to come into the world and go out of it without leaving behind him distinct and legitimate reasons for having passed through it."
