Williamsburg Rotary Club welcomes newly inducted District Governor

Williamsburg Rotary Club President Chuck Hobson (left) welcomed the newly inducted District Governor (DG) Gary Chenault who is in the process of visiting all 64 of our district's clubs to introduce himself and meet each of the club's boards, hear their plans for the year, and offer his insights into some key items associated with Rotary International and its global initiatives. DG Chenault reported that Rotary International's membership continues to be at 1.2 million, with 34,000 clubs, divided into around 530 districts, and 34 Zones (each zone having about the same number of Rotarians). He also stated that "...we are on the verge of eradicating polio in the world; with 33 cases on July 24, 2015 being reported (28 from Pakistan and 5 from Afghanistan) and with 128 cases on July 23, 2014 that is a significant reduction over the past year." [Rotary for 30 years has been a significant partner within the Global Polio Eradication Initiative along with CDC, WHO, UNICEF, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in donating both funding and member service in supporting polio vaccination campaigns.] As a token of appreciation to DG Chenault for his service, Hobson announced a donation to Rotary's Polio Plus program is being made by our club in DG Chenault's honor.
