Officials: Fire shuts down power to buildings at College of William & Mary

A generator fire behind Fauquier Hall at the College of William & Mary has shut down power to the entire Botetourt Complex, officials said.

Emergency crews responded to the fire shortly after 9 a.m., according to a post on the university’s website.

The fire has been deemed under control, officials said.

Power is expected to be out at the complex for the rest of the day, but the rest of the campus should have power restored in about two hours, officials said.

People are being asked to stay clear of Botetourt Complex and Keck Lab, until further notice, according to a campus email alert.

The Marketplace is closed. The Child Care Center will close at 11 a.m., if power is not restored by then, the alert states.
